Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state has
issued a stern warning to the President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal
government to desist from using police and soldiers during the rerun of
the National Assembly in the state.
Wike, who was recently sacked by the Court of Appeal, said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is ready for the National Assembly and vowed to resist any attempt by the federal government to manipulate the elections.
According to Leadership, the governor who spoke on Thursday at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, while addressing his supporters who thronged the airport to welcome him after the Court of Appeal judgement that upheld the nullification of his election, said the state would not accept what happened in Bayelsa.
“I want to warn, let nobody attempt to do what happened in Bayelsa State here. Since they said they have annulled the elections, let them come and conduct fresh elections.
“Let nobody think that they can use soldiers and policemen to intimidate us. We will resist any such attempt. We have maintained our cool for a long time. Our calmness should not be mistaken as a sign of weakness,” Wike said.
He also added: “We shall return all our National Assembly members as a way to disgrace those who think they will snatch the mandate of the people.”
