Following the continued protestations over
last week’s verdict by the Taraba state election petition tribunal the
All Progressives Congress has said the violence after the ruling was
meant to trigger a bigger crisis to slur the judgment that was being
celebrated.
According to This Day, the APC in the state said that the violence
that greeted the tribunal judgment in Wukari local government on Sunday
morning, November 8, was a planned action orchestrated by some
‘frustrated politicians’.
The state election tribunal had on Saturday, November 7, ruled that the female governorship aspirant, Senator Aisha Al-Hassan, who contested on the platform of the APC, was the winner of the April 2015 election.
The tribunal eventually sacked Governor Darius Ishaku of the Peoples Democratic Party from office and ordered the swearing-in of Alhassan as governor of Taraba.
The chairman of the APC in state, Hassan Jika Ardo said in a statement on Monday in Abuja that it was unfortunate that the protest was being used to unleash arson and violence on law-abiding citizens
Ardo said: “The leadership of the APC in Taraba state wishes to alert the public that the unfortunate eruption of violence on Sunday in Wukari local government area, following the news of the judgment of the governorship election tribunal was a premeditated action and orchestrate by frustrated politicians with the sole aim of creating chaos and uncertainty.
“We have information that the masterminds of the violence in Wukari are bent on spreading this violence to other local government areas of the state, such as Takum, Zing and Kurmi, with the sole intent to create discontent using religion to perpetuate chaos and lawlessness.”
The chairman further blamed the violence in Taraba on “selfish overlords of lawlessness and impunity who have usurped people’s right and privileges for generations.”
The APC said the judgment was purely a political situation, which has no gender and sectarian connotations and must be seen by the public as such.
Ardo, therefore, admonished all aggrieved people to seek redress through well-established processes for adjudication.
Meanwhile, Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state recently in a press statement described the Taraba state governorship election tribunal’s judgment as judicial rascality and conspiracy.
