Nigerians React To Ebola Scare In Calabar

Ten people have been quarantined in Calabar, Cross River state, .
The news was released by the health officials on Thursday, October 8.
The patient died before any tests could be carried out on him. The situation caused serious panic among citizens. People still remember .
Nigeria was declared Ebola-free by the World Health Organization on October 20, 2014, after 20 cases had been recorded in the country, with eight of them fatal.
As indications of the incurable disease’s re-occurrence have emerged again, terrified Nigerians have been taking to social media to express their shock and anger over the development. See some of the comments below:
Naij.com user Johnny Ekenze: “The efforts to check ebola disappeared the day GEJ left office as president.”
Ihemadu A. Nzeribe: “Ebola replaces HIV/AIDS hence HIV/AIDS was too slow to redice the population of Africa as was planned by the world health organization against certain time. But the truth of Ebola are yet to be disclossed by medical officers who were bought to keep the secret tight. I wish our Government will not be victimized to sucomb and sign the bill of acceptance for love of money.”
Nairaland user yatch360: “Not again… Where are my hand gloves.”
Segzybam: “These people would not just listen. Stop eating monkeys and Co. It’s not confirmed yet so let’s pray it ain’t ebola.”
Twitter is also not mute on the matter:
Meanwhile, the Cross River government has urged Nigerians to preserve calm and patiently wait for the medical test results, NAN reports.
Speaking with  journalists on Thursday, Sunday Omini, the director of public health in the state Ministry of Health, expressed confidence it was not the dreaded virus:
“We are aware of the situation and we have got preliminary reports from the hospital, and we are all awaiting the result of the blood samples.
“But judging from the information I have received so far, I am 90 per cent sure that it is not Ebola. However, we are on top of the situation, there is no cause for alarm.”
